One Year Ago…

On March 2nd, 2011 I embarked on a journey of sorts.  I hugged my parents goodbye, drove to Nashville, then to Oklahoma City, then to Albuquerque, then to Flagstaff, then to the Grand Canyon before finally arriving in my new home of Huntington Beach, California.  Once there, I spent about 3 weeks crashing on a friend’s couch, planning the summer of a lifetime, site seeing, learning how to play beach volleyball, and getting sun-burned like crazy.

My 6 months in California were life-changing, fruit-producing and joy-bringing.  It’s hard to believe it has been a year since I left (and then came back.)  It really makes me appreciate how quickly a year can pass.  I miss the extremely unique feeling of living in one of the most densely populated places in the world, and yet knowing no more than 15-20 people.  That was such a full time in life.

Soon…

Someday soon, I will start writing again.  First, I want to learn to write out of my heart and not out of a need to say something.  My heart has a lot to say, and I don’t want pride to get in the way.

"

Heavenly Father, you always amaze me. Let Your kingdom come in my world and in my life. You give me the food I need to live through the day, and forgive me as I forgive the people that wrong me. Lead me far from temptation, deliver me from the evil one.

I look out the window, the birds are composing. Not a note is out of tune or out of place. I walk to the meadow and stare at the flowers- better dressed than any girl on her wedding day. So why should I worry? Why do I freak out? God knows what I need- You know what I need.

Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong!

The Kingdom of the heavens is now advancing; invade my heart, invade this broken town. The Kingdom of the heavens is buried treasure; would you sell yourself to buy the one you’ve found?

Two things you told me- that you are strong, and you love me; yes you love me! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong! Your love is, Your love is, Your love is strong!

Our God in heaven, hallowed be thy name above all names; your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, forgive us weary sinners. Keep us far from our vices and deliver us from these prisons.

My year in pictures continued…  July in Cali til now…

My Year in Pictures… starting with last (white) Christmas… through July at Laguna Beach

"In all of creation, identity is a challenge only for humans. A tulip knows exactly what it is. It is never tempted by false ways of being. Nor does it face complicated decisions in the process of becoming. So it is with dogs, rocks, trees, stars, amoebas, electrons and all other things. All give glory to God by being exactly what they are. For in being what God means them to be, they are obeying Him. Humans, however, encounter a more challenging existence. We think. We consider options. We decide. We act. We doubt. Simple being is tremendously difficult to achieve and fully authentic being is extremely rare."

My week looked something like this (except for that time it snowed)

Sometimes, life really is this simple: Jesus knows me inside out, and He loves me.

No fear or anxiety or striving to perform or people pleasing inside of that.

Short and sweet: I survived my first LA freeway today. Oh, and my first fish taco. Oh, and I saw the sun rise over the Grand Canyon.

But enough about me, how was your day?

Seriously though, it’s amore. Everyone should have the experience of riding into SoCal on I-40 at least once in their life.
